Hmmm, Which face to use today?
ENVIRONMENT MINISTER BAIRD COMES TO WOODSTOCK
John Baird came to Woodstock yesterday to give a few remarks at the opening ceremonies at the Woodstock Clean Energy Expo....
and did I tell you...
blah blah blah.
Basically he said he'd be applying some "tough new standards on big industry."(he forgot to use them on Irving Oil though....hmmmm)
Environment Canada will not assess the impact of greenhouse gas emissions from this new Irving development. The assessment will barely cover the impact of the construction of a pier, which will be used for unloading crude oil from supertankers, and not the impact of the increased tanker traffic in the vicinity of the new refinery.
This is a bullshit decision from the environment minister and his cronies.
Fact is, if we do not apply more stringent regulations now to large emerging industrial developements, than we have nothing in the way of precedent to apply in the future to the next big industrial complex that seeks a similar typed exemption.
This is one more example of the Harper government paying attention to the needs of big oil and big industry versus the needs of the environment, and the needs of the people.
But on the other hand folks, if you are near Woodstock, get your butts out to see this energy expo which lasts the entire weekend and is very easy to find from the 401. Take exit 230 at Woodstock, head north 3km, turn right on Pembers Pass(big rocks say Potters Woods on the corner) and you'll drive straight into the complex.
