Toronto News: Toronto police officer jailed 30 days for assaulting suspect during illegal search - thestar.com
Must be a mistake....we all know the police would never upstand the law don't we?
I wonder, will he remain a cop after his jail sentence.(if he survives his jailing ...the great equalizer of all...where real justice is served)
And I wonder...is this one of the guys Vic Toews is in support of ...you know...the cops are good....Canadians are bad...the cops deserve warrantless everything....guys like the cop above....are friends of Vics'....I'm sure this cop would be glad to have access to warrantless spying....it seems he'd break the law to get what he needs....what's different about this officer and the 100,000 or so other police in the country? How many of them would break the law if they felt they will not be caught and if they felt it would nail their investigation for them? How many police do drugs...crack, coke and weed but still arrest Canadians for the same stuff?
What's certain is this....that cop will likely file and appeal and will likely not serve a day in jail.
And the guy who got beaten? All he says is....
“I am very afraid of the police.”
That kind of means you too Vic and Rob....you guys are the guys in charge of law and order and these days it seems there's more beatings than law taking place in this country.
Nothings' democratic, Nothing. If they tell you it is, it's just another lie.

You are just a Cop hater. Simple as that. Another who lumps them all into one category- bad! I agree with you in some respects though. I know a lot of them drink excessively, do drugs, and even act like idiots. But~ the majority of cops who join that profession nowadays, is just someone who wants to do it right. Some of them are like you, ppl who want to see a fair and equal justice system. It's hard for them to make any inroads when ppl like you are in their face painting them with the same tainted brush that every Hater does. Why don't you really starts king change. Find out about the cops who are doing GOOD. Write their stories. Make a damn difference rather then an uproar. Seriously man. When you or your Children need help~ who will you call~ Ghostbusters!
ReplyDeleteFrankly there's not really any reason to believe they are anymore heroic than the guy on the assembly line is.
DeleteThey both do a job, they both get paid.
"They both do a job, they both get paid."
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's constructive to equate police with other professions. They are entrusted with maintaining law and order and protecting the public from criminal harm. They are armed with lethal weapons. They are in a position of public trust.
Police should be held to a much higher standard than the average Joe on the assembly line. You know that's not the case when even someone who supports the cops can say, "I know a lot of them drink excessively, do drugs, and even act like idiots." WHY DO THEY DO THAT AND WHY DOES THIS GUY MAKE EXCUSES FOR THEM? Any cop who behaves this way should be FIRED. No appeals. No whining to the union. No bullshit.
If the police want to reclaim their position of public trust then they had better weed out the drunks, junkies and criminal element that hide behind the badge. Until then I'm with Bender. They should have their noses rubbed in every incidence of corruption or unprofessional conduct.
The issue is...we like to think that they are better than the rest of us when in fact, many are less than stellar in their personal lives.
ReplyDeleteWe can try to hold them to account, but the SIU is just another branch of them. They investigate and monitor themselves. The people appointed to boards of commission generally turn their blind eyes away from many things...in-house crime.
What litmus test is their for weeding out the good from the bad? Generally it takes a a citizen to be beaten or abused in public view with good witnesses before the internal review system actually takes charge and investigates...of course using their own staff who are friends of the guys/girls being investigated.
If you want a better force, get rid of the scaries on it...the money hounds and the folks who exact the slaps to the innocent. There should be better psychological testing done at the onset of hiring. Not every joe who completes a westervelt college course should be issued a badge...they should be tested thoroughly to see where they are mentally/intellectually/socially before giving them the keys to the car.
I'm not saying that all cops are bad...far from it and I take offence to the idea that they are.I have met some extraordinary officers in my community. I just say, it's truly an oddity that one set of laws...the criminal code of Canada, are used to judge the nations' people and on the other hand, the same tenets are disrupted by union actions and the activists that run those very unions and the SIU when it comes to using those laws against themselves.
The thing about the policing "industry" is that it is an industry. It's a money maker, is uncontrollable beyond the cope of normal taxpayer-government relatonship..the guards guard the guards.
