Wow...and this is a spectacular mess.
There's got to be a piss pot of money in the methadone business....almost as much as selling heroin or any opiate,
for someone to build a network of 42 shops in less than 6 years time.
Methadone clinics should be government staffed and operated.
There should be no privately operated meth clinics.
The possibility that a person woud take this business from the business of assisting addicts in their personal recoveries and turn it into a money grabbing venture is extraordinarily high without proper oversight.
Right now there is no oversight over these private meth clinics. The College of Physicians is not an oversight committee and they only act upon complaints related to physicians.
If you were a doctor that relied upon victims...err...patients, chances are you would want to ensure a steady flow of patients.
Given the fact that it is impossible to addict new patients to feed into the system, you are primarily stuck with the patients you know...the ones already on your roster.
In light of that, there's a pretty decent chance that the good doctor would wish to keep the patient on methadone for a little bit longer to ensure their financial returns.
Or at least that's what hundreds of methadone patients have told me.
