104.7 Heart FM-$250,000 Loan for Sedum Master

$250,000 of your tax dollars handed out from Dave Mackenzie to a Princeton area business

Your local MP is busy handing away money that you worked hard to hand over to his federal government.
Frankly, the way I see things, being a businessperson myself is this....
if your business needs tax dollars to survive or even begin, then your business is worth about as much as the paper I wiped my ass with this morning.
Steaing dollars from people to hand over to friends of your party is just crooked.

That's the government for you. Deciding who wins and who loses in what they want us to think of as the free enterprise private sector is what they are all about.

It's called Crony Capitalism. They used to call it Fascism but that was too hard to spell.

Try reading your own title here. It says loan!!! As a business person you should know that means that you have to pay it back. I see nothing wrong with canadian money funding local canadian companies.

Yes. It does say loan. As someone who is familiar with government "loans" to business I know that means they might pay it back.

If they needed a loan why didn't they get one from a financial institution? Interest rates are ridiculously low. Why should the government be competing with the banks when it comes to business loans?

Maybe because no financial institution would touch this deal because the risk of default was too high? We'll see.

    Sandplains...
Sand Plains Community Development Fund is a program created to assist rural communities in the Sand Plains region to build a stronger, more diversified economy.
This Fund is intended for community initiatives which support regional development; stimulate business, investment and job creation; strengthen local populations and attract visitors.
Rural projects in the counties of Brant, Elgin, Middlesex, Norfolk and Oxford may apply for assistance under two separate categories:

In other words, a slush fund that buys votes in rural areas...Of course it stimulates business, it shoves thousands into businesses pocket. Maybe its' a loan, but why should I be taxed extra to hand out loans to friends of politicians? Just answer that for me? I have no intent on building a "green" wall...I can grow my own "green"wall.

    Dear Educated and Knowledgeable:

Do you find most people are impressed with your condescending approach? If so you're probably misinterpreting their reactions.

Don't you mean what does the government "claim" the intent of the program is?

I've read the Sand Plains website and followed a number of links to funded projects. All I see is a pot of money being distributed to dubious business interests all of who will be delighted to vote Conservative and support their local Conservative candidate in the next election. If that weren't the case we wouldn't have conservative MPs, with the media on hand, handing out oversized cheques to people who are just delighted to have found a way to get back some of the money that's been gouged from them in taxes over the years.

This is nothing more than another high profile phoney stimulus package designed to stimulate one thing. Votes.

Every nickel people like Dave MacKenzie hand over in PR campaigns like this gets tacked onto the national debt. It should be charged to the Conservative Party of Canada as a campaign expense.

That knowledge comes from many years of education as a Canadian voter, taxpayer and keen observer of the genus Polticus Corruptus.

  8. Business should be self financed. There should be no government dollars involved.
Loans to one business in particular over the other thousands of businesses in the region is stunned. How many other "green" intitiatives in the local region are there and how many of them should be propped up financially with tax dollars?
The fact of the matter is if we continue to bleed the taxpayer eventually the taxpayer will need to be propped up.
If the feds have money to hand out, it simply means we've been overtaxed and these guys, Dave included are redistributing Canadian wealth to friends and allies without benefit to the taxpayer.

Would it come as a surprise to find that officious pronouncement from the pulpit (comment #5) came from the House of Commons IP?

    Defending the indefensible, again.
