MacKenzie defends controversial pension - Woodstock Sentinel Review - Ontario, CA

I guess it's what you call, defending the indefensible.
Wow, $797,564 is quite the awesome payoff for being a mediocre backbencher.
Coupled with his large publicly funded police pension, this guy should be set for life.
It's like winning the lottery.
Maybe Ernie Hardeman should be running for the federal seat based upon his eagerness to rid us of the gold plated pensions
for MP's.

    From the Sentinel story.....

MacKenzie, who said he has made no decision yet whether he will run again in the next election, called the recent controversy over MP pensions “a hot-button thing.”

“It’s too easy to attack,” he said.
    ----------------------------------

What he really means is it's too difficult to defend, because it's indefensible.

Hmmm. Double post. I guess that makes up for the comments we can't post to the Sentinel story - since it's not open for comments. We wouldn't want to hear from the people who will be paying for that gold plated pension now would we?

MacKenzie said, “It’s to encourage people from a variety of age groups and professional backgrounds to enter politics,”

What? Who wrote that talking point? It's complete blather. Take a look at our Provincial Legislature. They dumped the gold plated pensions long ago. Do you see any lack of diversity based on age or professional background? I sure don't.

There's only one reason Federal MPs have a gold plated pension plan payed for by people that are wondering where their own retirement income will be coming from. They wanted it and they took it. It's that simple when you can't be held to account by the people whose pockets you are picking.

Dave MacKenzie is behaving the way any common pickpocket would behave if you caught him with his hand in your pocket. He's making lame excuses and planning a quick getaway.

According to him, "It’s a good pension,” he said, “but it’s a similar plan to what I had in policing.” Hell, if the rest of us were comparing our wages and pensions to what cops get we'd be very disappointed. They're up there, getting close to 1% territory.
