And Did You Know?

THAT DUNCAN HINES WAS A REAL PERSON?
Duncan Hines was born on March 26, 1880, in Bowling Green, Ky and later went on to become a well published author on the topic of food and fine dining. He was the author of "Adventures in Good Eating” which was published in 1936, the same year in which the Berlin Olympics ran.
Hines originally began his career as a salesman and during his salesman travels visited many restaurants across the USA. He began keeping a journal of his favourite restaurant experiences and in the early years would send christmas cards to friends and family that contained his recommendations for fine dining. after some time he put all of those recommendations into a book that he called "Adventures in Good Eating".
In 1948 Hines was approached by another ad man who thought that they could create a national brand that would suggest higher quality if the Hines name was attached to it. Hines agreed and the Duncan Hines Brand was launched under the company name, Hines-Park Food Corp. Over the years the company produced more than 150 food items under the Duncan Hines brand name.
Hines died in 1959 at the age of 78.

Environment Ministers Call On Business To Develope Better Packaging

ONTARIO ENVIRONMENT MINISTER DEMANDS "SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING" FROM BUSINESS
Ontario Environment Minister John Gerretsen would like to see all Canadian businesses begin practicing what he calls "sustained packaging" of consumer goods and has found support amongst his federal and provincial counterparts on the matter.
Gerretsen would like to see a national set of packaging guidelines put into effect that would reduce the amount of garbage that ends up in landfills across the country and province. "There is an overall view that the amount of packaging being produced in Canada in which products are being marketed is excessive and so we want to see specific guidelines adopted nationwide so the amount of packaging will be lessened".
And my opinion on this matter?
Frankly, this is about one of the smartest things that we could be doing to combat the growing issue of mountains of packing garbage and it would be a perfect opportunity to see this instituted as recycling has become sort of a non-option with the fall of recycled materials prices during this current global recession.
Making manufacturers more responsible for the garbage they create is a perfect fit for a world driven by consumerism.
