News...Straight from hell. These are the days my friend...i'm pretty sure they'll never end.

Do you agree with the Harper-Mackenzie plan to hobble Canadian seniors financially?

Be there to support councillors who do not support the art gallery

Today is March 1. Five days from now our predominantly feckless city council will be officially receiving a self serving piece of crap called a Feasibility Study. This study will clearly state that it is feasible for our council to blow up to ten million (or more) dollars on a new art gallery. The study will claim that there is overwhelming community support for the project without referencing any specific polls or studies to back up the claim. The only real polls done were a few years ago by Market Probe and they were posted on this blog. They clearly indicated that the community has NO interest in a new gallery or even additional space for art related functions. It will make more claims that are just that, claims. This document is nothing more than a bought and paid for license to facilitate council picking our pockets and paying off a few of their local art fancier chums.

Council paid sixty thousand dollars for this study. Do you think the authors wrote what they were told to write? This document is Council paying (with our money) for a document that reinforces a decision already made in the backrooms.

The meeting is THURSDAY MARCH 5. BE THERE!

A council chamber full of objectors will expose the lie of community support for this scam. Right now there are three councillors and the Mayor who support this. Let's make it clear that those four have political careers that will be ending in less than two years.

Conservative Supporters To Hold "GALA" Event

Manning Centre Future Leaders "Gala" Dinner
oh yes....they are honouring Rick Hillier.
I won't be buying a ticket....I'll let the warmongers do the chilling by themselves.
It's good to see these ultra Conpublicans enjoying themselves though after all the hullaballoo about those conservative types never attending GALA events as that type of event is only for the rich and connected.
Dinner costs $195.00....more money than a single male in Ontario receives on welfare for food...for the entire month.(actually, that number is almost double what an Ontario male receives in food allowance)
Keep up the good work you Conpublicans! Does anyone know if the Manning Centre receives any type of public funding for anything?

Canadians Are Trying New Living Arrangements

UNEMPLOYED CANADIANS MOVING HOME
One thing that Canadians over the gae of 60 have in common these days is the fact that many of their grown children are moving home as a result of the poor economy and exceedingly high living costs while unemployed.
A friend of mine was telling me yesterday that their grown son is moving back home this month from another province after living there for the past 5 1/2 years working in the oil patch after being laid off from their position.
According to several news media outlets there is a glut of unrented apartments from one side of Canada to another despite people needing places to live. I suppose that housing has taken an economic kick in the pants as well, even rental housing.
I wonder how many other people are taking up residency with their parents now? And of course, I wonder how their parents feel about having their kids back home again after a few years away from the nest?
My friend said she did not look forward to another person in the house, and was concerned about how long this downturn thing may last. I cannot say that I blame her...we become accustomed to our privacy more than we like to admit.

Aging is a bitch...Respect Your Elders

Happy Fishing

The day after his wife disappeared in a kayaking accident in the Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia, a man answered his door to find two grim-faced Mounties.

'We are sorry sir, but we have some information about your wife' said one Mountie.

'Tell me! Did you find her?' the husband shouted.

The Mounties looked at each other. One said, 'We have some bad news, some good news, and some really great news. Which do you want to hear first?

Fearing the worst, the ashen husband said, 'Give me the bad news first.'

The Mountie said, 'I'm sorry to tell you, sir, but this morning we found your wife's body in the bay.'

Oh my God!' exclaimed the husband. Swallowing hard, he asked, 'What's the good news?'

The Mountie continued, 'When we pulled her up, she had 12 twenty-five pound snow crabs and 6 large lobsters clinging to her.'

Stunned, the husband demanded, 'If that's the good news, what's the great news?'

The Mountie said, 'We're going to pull her up again tomorrow.

Drug Dealers Going To Jail?

HARPER ANNOUNCES PLAN TO SEND MORE DRUG DEALERS TO JAIL..DRUG DEALERS RUN SCARED...OR LAUGHING
Somedays these people just announce the funniest stuff.
Canadas' new government is always on the lookout for another opportunity to sell itself as the "law and order" government and this week brings another big toothed annoucement that will obviously not accomplish much, but will buy a few of those BC votes for the federal CONS from gullible and desperate BCers who are hoping for some relief from the gangs and gun battles that plague that provinces' communities.
Vancouver Police Chief had this to say about the new announcement..."It is clear we need to do something about this. We need the criminal justice system to strike fear in the hearts of gang members."  I kinda like the first line...it is clear we need to do something about this......as in , we've been doing nothing thus far, but we get paid for it.
After studying that announcment, the Union of Armed And Dedicated Drug Dealers announced they will no longer deal any drugs anywhere in Mr Harpers' country out of fear that the horriffic one year sentence that might be imposed is far to severe a sentence to have to serve.
Seriously, do these government people really think that announcing some silly ass program or even life sentences for gang related crimes will actually do anything to reduce gang and gun activity on the streets of Canada? The mass majority of gang leaders probably don't read the news and I bet that none of them would care less about the federal justice ministers' response to the issue either. In fact, I bet that not one life will be saved by introducing this change in the Controlled Substances Act.
If they wish to make a real change start arresting some of those opiate pushing doctors that prescribe Oxcontin to people that don't need them. But then again, that would lead to a more severe doctor shortage than we already have.
I think what this does is stabilize a few Tory votes in the west...nothing more and nothing less.
