REMEMBRANCE DAY OVERSHADOWED BY SWASTIKAS
It's a mess.
For months now Woodstock has been suffering a blight delivered from a childish graffitti artist in the way of poor renditions of swastikas being painted on all sorts of things like bridges or whatever, but yesterday when I attended the Rembrance Day ceremonies in my hometown I realized that things had gotten completely out of hand.
Hundreds of people who had come to pay their respects to those who fought in several wars stood in silence as the officials in charge explained that someone had defiled the empty tomb of the dead on the eve before the ceremonies.
Reverend Peter Grogan in his booming Irish voice explained to the crowd how he felt about the incident in a way that many of us could relate to when he said, "As a Christian minister, I hope that God forgives you . . As an Irishman, I would say that you are the scum of the Earth."
As the father of someone who is enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces I can only say that this is a disgusting act of childishness from a coward. Someday you the perpetrator(s) will be found and guaranteed you will not get a good ride, and more than likely you will be treated as scum of the earth from a community that stands together on this issue.
