SHOULD POLICE BE PERMITTED TO ACCESS MONEY EARMARKED FOR VICTIMS OF CRIME?
Police across Ontario who are injured on the job are accessing monies from the Criminal injuries Compensation Board for silly things like broken fingers and stubbed toes.
According to a Toronto star report, police in Ontario who have been injured on the job have as a result of a legal loophole the ability to apply for funds even when they have been fairly compensated by their workplace safety insurance. The article goes on to make a point of one case in particular where a family had their son murdered and were handed $10,000.00 by the board. A cop who was injured on the job received $10,000.00 for "pain and suffering" after suffering a broken leg even though he was able to collect his wages in full from his workplace insurance.
More than $1.5 million has been turned over to injured officers for mainly pain and suffering.
Do you feel that police should be able to take this money while being paid by the province or by their personal insurers in full while off work?
Any cop who takes advantage of this legal loophole should be ashamed of him/herself. The government should take immediate action to close the loophole and if there's any way to legally claw the money back from these so called public servants it should be done as soon as possible.
ReplyDeleteA pretty good legal scam isn't it? Double dipping is wrong.
