HST Could Add Nearly $200.00 To average Ontario Home Heating Bill

ONTARIO REFUSES TO EXEMPT HOME HEATING COSTS FROM PROPOSED HST
The Ontario government has yet to offer any exemptions from the proposed HST according to Premier Dalton McGuinty who stated yesterday that Ontario could not afford to exempt heating bills as that exemption would cost Ontario at least $900 million per year.
According to Stats Canada (who keeps national statistics on everything from births to underwear sales)home heating costs in Ontario are generally in the range of $2047.00 per year including GST. With the GST removed heating costs would drop by 5%, but the increase of 13% HST would bring you an increase of $198.00 per year.
$198.00 per year could buy you a lot of groceries. For single parents this could be a very unnecessary burden. For seniors on fixed incomes, this will be costly. Generally for the poor of Ontario this will be a hugely expnsive program.
And of course, I will always stand against the proposed HST in its' current form.
The HST was introduced to the Ontario government by the federal Conservative minister of finance, Jim Flaherty. Thanks Jim for making life a little bit harder for Ontario residents.

That should read: "Premier Dalton McGuinty stated yesterday that "The Government of" Ontario could not afford to exempt heating bills. That exemption would cost "The People of" Ontario at least $900 million per year.

On the one hand these morons are talking about consumers pulling the country out of recession and on the other hand they are sucking money out of the hands of consumers and lining the government coffers. McGuinty is taxing us all to try to mitigate the outrageous deficit he's running up and he doesn't care if he cripples the recovery to do it.

Where is the vocal opposition? Why are the people of Ontario just rolling over and taking this?

It's high time the people of this province took a lesson from the folks to the South. We need a Canadian version of Tea Parties. There's one being held in London this Saturday. It will be interesting to see how many people will get off their apathetic asses and attend.

If you're too lazy to drive to London you could make a difference by just getting off your ass and attending the Woodstock City Council meeting tonight. If you want to stop the Great Gallery Rip-off tonight might just be your last chance. All you have to do is show up. Let them know we're watching - and voting.

Yes taxes heating might increase $200 a year, but there will be a PERMANENT PST tax rebate (like the GST rebate those with low to modest incomes receive) of up to $500 a year. PLUS income taxes at the lowest bracket was cut by 17% so you will have more take home pay on every pay cheque.

Why does NO ONE present a balanced picture of this issue? Are you aware that YOU the blogger will be receiving those benefits as well right?

The facts are 90% of Ontarians will have MORE MONEY in their pockets. The richest indeed will pay more (with family incomes of $160,000 or more) that's also a fact, but let's at least be hoenst.

It's not too late to put the brakes on the gallery. That's why they're trying to slide it through tonight's meeting with a minimum of publicity. Be there. Make a difference.

"The richest indeed will pay more..."

I thought Eat The Rich Socialism was the NDPs exclusive province. I guess Dalton's taking a lesson from his Federal counterpart and trying to out left the left. Call it what it is, socialist income redistribution. And call Dalton what he is, finished. It's just a matter of time until the next election.
