Some Intersting Points To Ponder....Woodstocks' Art Gallery..An Email I Recieved

Woodstock Art Gallery a "Done Deal"?!‏
Hopefully some of you can attend Thursday's council meeting.
UNBELIEVEABLE …. and Appalling
September 8, 2009 minutes … you will read the following statement …
“the committee did NOT receive the costing report from KNY / AJ Hooker” ….
Later in those same minutes … “the timeline developed by Bob McFarland … to present to Council on October 1st … Public Open House on October 6th …
… (AND ARE YOU READY) … the staff report to Council with recommendations to proceed with the project (including financial information) …
And finally, the next meeting of the committee is at the call of chair pending receiving the AJ Hooker cost report …
SO STAFF (McFarland) IS WRITING A REPORT TO RECOMMEND A PROJECT THAT IS DEPENDENT ON BUDGET CONSTRAINTS … BEFORE HE and THE COMMITTEE HAVE EVEN SEEN THE COSTING REPORT !!!!
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Therefore follow this time line …
September 8 Tuesday … Building Committee minutes indicate costing report not available and delayed
September 23 Wednesday … date of SCHEMATIC DESIGN ESTIMATE report … prepared for KNY Architects and Prepared by A.W. Hooker
September 25 Friday … date of letter from KNY to City of Woodstock … presenting their design concept … to be received as information
September 25 Friday … (or earlier) Recommendations in Item 11-C … from Leonard Reeves, Chair, Building Committee
September 25 Friday … KNY / AW Hooker report enclosed in the City Council Agenda and distributed to Councillors
September 28 Monday … Building Committee reviews KNY / AW Hooker costing report
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
COUNCILLORS ARE LEAD TO ASSUME THAT THE BUILDING COMMITTEE HAS REVIEWED THE COSTING REPORT BEFORE SENDING TO CITY COUNCIL … I MEAN, ISN”T THAT WHAT ADVISORY COMMITTEES ARE SUPPOSE TO DO … BE THE EYES AND EARS OF COUNCIL !!!!
SO THE BUILDING COMMITTEE DID NOT REVIEW THE COSTING REPORT UNTIL YESTERDAY ….
YET THE CHAIR OF THE BUILDING COMMITTEE PLACES IT ON THE COUNCIL AGENDA … CLEARLY WITHOUT THE ENDORSEMENT OF BUILDING COMMITTEE MEMBERS …
HENCE THE “TO BE RECEIVED AS INFORMATION” AND THE FAILURE TO MENTION THAT THE BUILDING COMMITTEE HAS YET TO REVIEW THE COSTING REPORT OF KNY / AW HOOKER … OR THAT THE BUILDING COMMITTEE MAY HAVE CONCERNS !!!!

So. What's your point? You're not suggesting that this is in any way out of the ordinary are you? The decisions are made in back rooms, then the paper trails, consultants and committees are put in place to legitimize the decisions that have already been made. This is called transparency and accountability.

The only surprise here is the incredible incompetence evidenced by their fumbled attempts to cover their tracks. This council has reached new heights in arrogance, stupidity and contempt for the public.

I'm bettin' they get away with it too because the public deserve their contempt. They were stupid enough to elect them and they are too damned apathetic to pay attention to what's going on. Turnouts at meetings where the gallery has been on the agenda have been ridiculously low. I have no reason to believe tomorrow will be any different.

Woodstock has the government it deserves.

Is it appropriate for a Liberal nominee to be using New Democrats Online to post his personal blogs

Read the address bar. It's Jim's blog. IF New Dems Online want to take him off their bloglist that's their business. I believe he's also been listed on Liblogs for some years now. I don't recall any NDPers bitching about that.

You're just pissed because he decided to run for the Liberals and not for you. :)

  5. What a bunch of crap.
I'm pretty darned leftist, but I also feel that taking the left out of the dark ages and into the light is a damned fine idea.Perhaps the newdemocratsonline are opposed to that? In order for any of these "left" ideas to make it into the mainstream and into public policy someone has to start somewhere.I may not be the right guy to do it. I don't know. But what I do know is that MPs' should get their act together and realize that Canadians elected all of them to do a job. And frankly, that job is not being done when all of these people are bickering over silly things like parties.
I felt I had to join a party in order for things to be heard. The Liberals are by and large the governing party most of the time. They have the most amount of credibility when compared to the CONS. The Greens and the NDP will never hold even opposition power. This is a natural conclusion after many years examining this issue. They refuse to move from their staid positions. New policies have fallen into the gutter due to a lack of political willpower.
As I've said many times before, a smart government would borrow from all of the smart ideas that are proposed by all parties, and out of that a great government could be built.
Government with reasoning ability is important. It is unreasonable to suggest that calling each other names based upon party lines is acceptable. And it's not really. People are sick of lame arguments. They wish for the work of the people to be done.
If we want to accomplish anything, we must all come together. The goal should be and should always remain the toppling of the CONservative government at all cost. They have destroyed what many people had worked to accomplish. In only a few short years they blew every dime we had and mortgaged the house much beyond its' worth. Our children will pay for their financial mismanagment. No doubt about it. Either its' higher taxes or chopped social programs. They screwed up.
The NDP and Greens would do well to take their best ideas and fold them back into the centre-left of the spectrum. Otherwise we all face the prospect of many long years with Stephen Harper. I'm pretty damned certain that I would be willing to work with all of you. Really certain of that. As an individual, I feel that would be my job...to accomodate those points. Guaranteed I wouldn't work like the present MP...everyone would be given full access.

    "I'm pretty darned leftist"

The Left would disagree with that statement. Too much of what you espouse goes against traditional leftist thought.

Why not just admit you're an Independent who believes in a government that is accountable to the people that elected it and stop allowing the idealogues to pigeon hole you.

Traditionally the Liberal Party has been the place for people like you. Maybe you can help bring them back to some level of balance and sanity.

...not counting on it though. :)

ohhhh, i see some sour grapes here. if you want to hear what the local ndp thought, start asking around. there is bound to be one honest person out there that will tell the truth. i am betting that it wont be pretty either. and jim, there is an old saying out there, (by an old ndp lady by the way) "let the dogs howl, and get the job done". i think, given the circumstances, that she would approve. so go gettem!

You make it sound like they refused to take him as a candidate. Not so. It's the other way 'round.

There is no wrath like an NDP riding association scorned. :)

    Small. Very small.
Hearing sentiments like that it is no wonder that Jim went with the area Liberals after they asked him. It's the local NDP who will loose out.
