LORDS' PRAYER BECOMES A THING OF THE PAST IN ONTARIO LEGISLATURE
The Premier of Ontario, Dalton McGuinty as of Wednesday has decided to seek the removal of the Lords' Prayer from the Ontario Legislature after complaints were received that it lacked the cultural and religious diversity necessary to reflect all persons in Ontario.
McGuinty decided it was time to "move along" into the 21st century to a more inclusive custom that better reflects Ontario's multiculturalism and has asked for input on the subject from citizens and political leaders as to the direction the government should take.
Personally, this time shold be used for a moment of silence, and not some hokey prayer to the gods of whatever.
According to the 2006 census report, nearly 50% of persons living in the Toronto area were born outside of Canada and do not share the same fundamental christian beliefs as those who were born here. Nearly 1/3 of Ontario residents who were born outside of Ontario have cited other religions as their primary religion versus that of christian practices.
McGuinty stated that the daily recitation that has been used since 1969 does not reflect our population and as well other jurisdictions have moved to update their traditions.
Personally, I feel that it is about time they did this.
Religion has no place in politics, unless you're in Afghanistan or something.
And besides that, isn't there supposed to be a seperation of church and state?

Opening with the Lord's Prayer has little to do with anyone's religion and everything to do with CANADIAN cultural tradition.
Destroying our cultural heritage in the name of multiculturalism does not benefit immigrants and plays into the hands of the cultural revisionists who want to rewrite history to suit their own ideology.
I'm not a Christian. I'm not any damned thing. I don't believe in God or the Easter Bunny. And I sure as hell don't believe in shredding our cultural traditions so McGuinty can buy more immigrant votes.
No it's a religious matter, the Lord's prayer isn't a British, or Canadian aspect, its a Christian aspect! God Save the Queen (or King), that is cultural. Open your eyes!
I did not realize they still did this. It is about time they rid themselves of such trivial items of religion in our government house.
A-Freakin'-Men to that!
Amen.
Yet another reason I can't stand multiculturalism. Another failure.

Before wiser heads prevailed, Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty flirted with allowing shariah law in Ontario a few years ago. Last week he indicated a desire to change Ontario's school curriculum to better accommodate black students. And now he wants to eliminate the century-old tradition of saying the Lord's Prayer before the opening of parliamentary sessions.
I have to wonder if we will recognize Ontario in the future, if Mr. McGuinty continues his shameless pandering to his preferred voting blocs.
why do we constantly loose our beleifs to others. If we are excepting them can they not except us? The Lords's prayer is to help us not separate us from fellow man it is our hope our light our connection to the spirit within us all.
Not said well but well said.
I don't have a problem with dumping the Lord's Prayer from the legislature. It seems like a perfectly rational move to me. The idea that my so-called representatives petition an invisible man that lives in the sky for guidance gives me the creeps.
What I DO have a problem with is that this move to dump the prayer has absolutely nothing to do with any principle of separation of church and state and everything to do with politics and avoiding the real issues. Once again McWeasel has succeeded in deflecting attention from the fact that he is afraid to confront REAL issues by creating a firestorm about ... nothing.
What happened to enforcing the law in Caledonia? What happened to addressing the god-awful pollution spewing from our power plants and industries? What's happened. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. McGuinty is a spineless pus bag who is afraid to do his job.
Our Father that are in heaven, Please give me a premier that has the courage and fortitude to do his fucking job.
hehehe LOL!
god (oops)luck on that one!
