HARPER FLIPS....FLOPS...AND FLUNKS OUT.
From the desk of the ruling CONservatives comes a curious note...
Stevie says...
TROOPS WON'T STAY UNLESS ALL PARTIES AGREE!
Stephen Harper who for his entire term in office has insisted on keeping the troops in Afghanistan, has curiously...FLIPPED, and ultimately...FLOPPED, on his own promise to maintain these troops "for as long as it takes"to complete the mission.
Now the mission will end much sooner than the "forever" that he had previously envisioned.
Harper made the comments in Quebec as troops gathered for a send-off amidst high level public opposition and planned protests of the send off event.
Last month Harper told members of Canadian forces in Afghanistan that Canada cannot just arbitrarily lay down its' weapons on any specific date. "We just can't stop and hope for peace".
Opposition to the Afghanistan war is highest in Quebec. Harper is fearful of alienating any potential voters in the Belle province. Recent polls have put the CONServatives in a negative light in Quebec and the eastern provinces. Without the support of the east and Quebec the chance of re-election is appallingly slim.
Much of the problem is the fact that the current defence minister has failed to articulate the role of Canadas' miltary properly to the Canadian people.
It is expected that as a result of falling support for the mission and poor communication skills, Gordon O'Connor will be the victim of a cabinet shuffle this coming week.
On the issue of communication skills, the Prime Minister is to blame as his autocratic micromanagement style is weak and ineffectual.
