THE RISE , FALL AND RISE AGAIN OF SOCIAL ACTIVISM
Canada by design, is social in its' viewpoint, politically ideal, and democratically inclined.
Anti-agressive by nature, we offer the world a clear conscience and stand attached to the ideals of standardized social healthcare, educational attainment and financial protections in the shattered moments of our lives.
These are the dreams of the Canada we know, and these small threads combined make us a world class state.
We are under threat, not from terrorists, but from an encroaching Americanism not willing to take any "no" for an answer.
The failure of our leaders to curb these incursions over our sovereignty by the Americans is bewildering to most Canadians. At the very root of this problem stands NAFTA, and its' lack of ability to accomodate these breakdowns in trade and cross-border takeovers.
Our country has won numerous trade disputes, only to be second-handed a judgement designed by the Americans for the Americans, which they believe overshadows any LEGAL judgement made by any world court on trade.
It is not in Canadas' interests to be harangued into a trade agreement by a state that does not believe it needs to follow the same rules.
Sending Michael Wilson(an american butt kisser) to any trade dispute on softwood lumber will not result in anything that we already are entitled to: fair and equal trade. We have won our position in a court of law, it is time for the USA to reconcile, pay up and be done with this bullying process, or it is perhaps time to withdraw our support for this trade agreement.
Free trade has destroyed many Canadian lives. Many people affected by the initial onslaught of open, unfettered trade have never recovered. Huge numbers of Canadian businesses fled Canada for the warm anti-social clime of the southern USA, and some further on done to Mexico.
Yes, Canadians have become familiar with cheap imports resultant of lighter trade rules, but this has not made Canadians live a better life, and in fact, many Canadians have been left out of the paradigm by the federal government which was born out of responsibility to protect those that it elected it.
A majority of Canadians would opt out of this unbalanced trade alliance if the details were made public. Many more would march in protest against the governments that have sold their country off piecemeal.
The financing of many social programs has come to a halt since the inception of free trade. In order to make Canadian companies profitable in an open market, successive governments have reduced corporate Canadas' influx of tax dollars to a mere pittance of what they once were. Now Canada struggles with the burden of finding dollars for a cash-strapped healthcare system, a deteriorating university system and every social institute in the country is up for auction and dismantling.
The high burden of taxing the populace is by nature flawed. The individual person is really the driving force behind all things economic, versus the concept that corporate Canada will drive the economy.
Corporate Canada has no conscience, no family and are shelters for high profit, criminal activity and basically a means to fleece the workers out of labour for scant wages.
Corporate Canada enjoys some of the lowest tax rates on earth(dividends are taxed at a rate of 3%) while the balance of the population pays for its' misdeeds through high taxes, which are then used to subsidize these faltering shareholder enterprises.
Greed and corporate Canada walk hand in hand while the rest of us pay their way. This is the demise of our social system, and there is no recovery possible as long as we elect people to govern that are responsible to no one, aside from the companies that elect them.
People don't elect governments, money does. Unfortunately for us, it's our money, not theirs to give away!
